As spring awakens, Oscar Khan, graduate of May 2025, embarks on a transformative new chapter in his life. He arrived at DAP on February 14, 2023, after a profound near-death experience in Loma Linda, CA. After this pivotal moment, he chose to recommit to his faith in God, having discovered newfound strength and resilience.
Oscar was blessed to be raised in a Christian home, where he was taught to love Jesus and had the opportunity to attend a Christian Academy. It was there that he heard Cliff’s testimony, which would become a pivotal moment in his life. Cliff took him out to lunch and shared his concerns about Oscar’s drug use, warning him about the dangers of methamphetamines. Oscar was moved by Cliff’s words and promised to turn his life around. However, after graduating, he found himself surrounded by the wrong crowd and was tempted by the wealth and status that came with selling drugs. Ironically, 28 years later, he found himself at DAP, a place where he could finally find the help and support he needed. In hindsight, he realized that he had been given a second chance, and he was determined to make the most of it. His life had become unmanageable, and he had ended up in prison for two years, where he became affiliated with a gang.
In 2000, he suffered from brain aneurism due to his drug use, which could have taken his life. Despite his struggles, Oscar was able to function and even worked as a chef while attending college, where he earned a B.S. Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management.
In 2017, he made the decision to start running drugs from Mexico for a cartel that lasted five years, a choice that would have profound consequences.
Oscar’s mother had always been his rock, praying for him, and supporting him through thick and thin. However, her unwavering support may have inadvertently enabled his behavior, and he eventually found himself taking advantage of her trust, stealing substantial amounts of money from her retirement account.
Oscar’s mother eventually passed away, and he was left to grapple with the guilt and shame of his actions. Despite the pain and regret, Oscar’s story is one of hope and redemption, a testament to the human spirit’s capacity for growth, forgiveness, and transformation. Listen to his testament:
This extraordinary display of faith serves as a powerful reminder of God’s incredible ability to transform lives. Like Cliff, Oscar’s mother did not witness her prayers being answered through his transformation. Nevertheless, both mothers’ hearts will overflow with joy when they are reunited with their sons in heaven. What a glorious day of celebration that will be!!
