Dear Family Member:
Our personal testimony is more powerful than Bible doctrines. The stories of Moses, David, Paul, and Peter in the Bible are powerful. However, those personal experiences of someone we know and can see are powerful and provide much needed hope. DAP emphasizes the need to share personal testimonies. The men have begun by rehearsing their stories within the program, as well as at other settings. By sharing, they are not only helping others, but are also recognizing things about themselves that they had not realized before. Areas where growth can occur and help make them better people. It does not matter what career or job one pursues; at the end of the day, the question should be, did I show (not tell) someone the love and mercy of Christ who is transforming my life, daily?
Service to others is vital to any type of recovery. The secret is, when we commit our lives to service, as Christ did, we can overcome any addiction or problem. Service teaches us compassion, patience, love, forgiveness, devotion, friendship, and truthfulness. In order to teach these attributes, you must become them. This is learned best through practice. Our saying is, “Don’t talk about it, be about it!” Just listen to Brian’s experience as he shares how service is teaching him structure and skills that he had not exercised in a while. They needed to be awakened!! He had them all along!! Hallelujah!!!
We want to introduce our client, Brian Edwards. He is especially dear to our heart. Brian seems quiet and shy on the surface, but when you get to know him he’s a jewel to be around. He was born and raised right here in Huntsville, AL. Brian’s Mother passed away when he was 10. His relationship with his father has been estranged since his mother’s death. However, he is asking God to help him connect with his father. Brian has a twin sister and an older brother who have been supportive of him throughout the program. Unfortunately, like many others, his addiction caused him to not have the ability to keep a job or take care of himself. After living with his brother for several months, he was given an ultimatum to get help or leave his home. Brian googled ‘Rehabilitation Centers’ and Drug Alternative Program was the first name to pop up. We do not believe in accidents, and truly believe that God brought Brian to the program that was the best fit for him. He called Cliff and made arrangements to enter the program. His words say it all.
“My experience at Drug Alternative Program has been wonderful. I am truly blessed to be here. It is only by God’s grace that I am here. What makes Drug Alternative Program so special is that it is a Christian program. What also makes the program special is Mr. and Mrs. Harris. The Harris’s are very loving Christian people who want to see me and those like me succeed. I often hear them say, “Our calling is to help men addicted to drugs.” I truly believe this is their calling.
DAP is designed to help men learn important life skills like having structure, stability and being responsible and most importantly, putting God first in their lives. When I was addicted to drugs, none of these things were important to me at all. I was just living without a purpose. I was living life not even thinking about tomorrow or my future. I didn’t care about other people or even myself. Drugs were my top priority.
I often hear Mr. & Mrs. Harris say, “We have to stay connected to Jesus.” They often tell us, when we leave DAP, it is important that we stay connected to Jesus because, if we don’t, we could end up right back on drugs. I believe that is true. I believe that Jesus makes the difference.
I have been in this program for six months and I am proud to say that I have been clean and sober for six months. I am excited about my future and what God has in store for my life. I want to thank God for what he has done for me thus far in my life and what He is doing for me today. I would also like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Harris for everything they do for me here at DAP and for all their hard work. Last but not least, I want to thank you, donors, for all your prayers and financial support. Without you, I would not have the opportunity to experience God’s healing and this change in my life. Thank you so much!” Brian Edwards
Review and site utility evaluations have been successfully completed and the survey is being done at this time. Escrow is scheduled to close on September 30, 2021. This land was previously leased to a gentleman to grow cotton. We will take possession of the 10 acres in November after the cotton is harvested.
Meanwhile, we are planning a “Ribbon Cutting” Ceremony on October 10, 2021. It will be a BIG celebration and we want you to come. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend. Flyers will be forthcoming, however, you may RSVP now by calling or texting us at 951-544-1307. We are excited! And we want you to be a part of the biggest step of faith, thus far, that DAP has taken in its 34 years of ministry. This expansion is truly God’s project, we are still learning on the job. We are blessed to be entrusted to manage it. He needs our help to bring more souls to Christ, especially our passion, men addicted to drugs. As we said before, every person we see has an inner longing in their heart to know Christ… to be loved, accepted, understood, etc. Do you think any of these men ever dreamed of one day becoming addicted to drugs? No, this was their way of escape! Yours may be food, games, porn, etc. But, thank God, every person is winnable. Our desire is to reach as many of them as possible.
Family Member, please pray earnestly and ask God to show you as a Land Partner how to help DAP develop these 10 acres into a community of service. God needs us to bring these winnable souls with an inner longing to know Christ to His family. We need to give philanthropists, organizations, companies, friends and whoever else, an opportunity to be Land Partners of this development. Just this morning God showed us His promise to Abraham in Genesis 12:2-3: “(DAP), I will bless you…and I will bless those who bless you…My intention is for you to be a blessing to the whole world.” Family, as you commit to this huge and much needed task, there are no limits to which God will bless you and provide you with wisdom for all your endeavors. Exciting! So, expect your rewards as you help us to be God’s hands and feet to accomplish His glorious mission here in Huntsville, AL. We can’t wait until we can all celebrate together in victory!!! Thank you, gracias, merci beaucoup!!!
We’re excited!!!
