Subject: Friday Night Vespers 11-26-21
Our guest speaker was Freddie’s brother, Tillus Adkins, from Oklahoma City, OK. He shared his personal testimony with the men.
Growing up a Seventh-day Adventist, he had close friends in the church. However, at the age of 21, he started partying with the wrong people and going to bars. One night after drinking and passing out at the bar, he woke up to find all his buddies gone and his wallet, watch and other belongings stolen. At that moment, he made a decision to stop drinking and he never drank alcohol again.
However, Satan did not let him go. He got involved with women and lived a fast life by using marijuana and cocaine. He even became a drug dealer. One day, the police stopped him for speeding. His car was full of drugs and he was scared stiff. After the police checked his record, he only gave him a warning. He knew that was God’s last warning! After that miracle, he decided to give up his lifestyle of drugs and worldly living.
On the next day, Sabbath, he said, “Jesus ‘touched’ me on my shoulder and said, “Go to church.” I went and the Pastor’s appeal song was, “He ‘Touched’ Me.” He knew that was God’s love wooing him. That day, 40 years ago, he gave his heart to God, and has never looked back. He’s now retired, shares God’s love wherever he goes, leading people to Christ.
He let the men know that God has called them, just like He called him. They were encouraged to take advantage of their time at DAP. God has a plan for their lives. He admonished them to study their Bible and witness to others by sharing their personal testimony.
In closing, he said the Holy Spirit is being poured out on all of us. Make sure we “Let our light so shine before men, that they may see our good works, and glorify our Father which is in heaven (Matthew 5:16).”
Tillus’s story was most inspiring. We believe that personal testimonies are more powerful than Bible doctrines.
