The guest speaker for Vesper‘s was 2003 DAP graduate, Humberto Harrison , joined by his wife, Lessie. They came from California to attend the graduation of their granddaughter. We asked him to share his personal testimony with his brothers.
Humberto is a professional barber. He started using drugs at the age of 25. From 1985 to 2001 he was addicted to crack cocaine. Within three months, he lost his job, car and apartment. Later he “cleaned up,” got married and his son, Michael, was born. After a few years, he regressed and his wife divorced him.
In time, Humberto returned to church determined to start a new beginning. He met Lessie and they became close friends. They had discussed plans to get married. However, he regressed again, experienced deep depression and went on several cocaine binges.
He reached out to his pastor and his best friend and they introduced him to Cliff. To his surprise, he immediately entered the program. Humberto did very well, graduated in 2002, moved into the Transition House and worked as a barber in GrandTerrace, near DAP.
Weekly he gave his money to Cliff to save for him.
To make a long story short, Humberto made a dinner date with Lessie, his son and other family members. They all waited at the restaurant, and he never showed up. You’re right, he got high on cocaine again!
After saving $1000, and, knowing he had to start the program over, he decided to leave. However, when Cliff handed him that $1000 cash, he said, “Mr. Harris, I cannot leave like this, because my relationship with you as my Dad means too much to me.” Humberto returned and graduated a year later.
Living in Moreno Valley and working as a barber, he and Lessie have been happily married since 2004 and he has been ‘clean and sober’ since 2003 – 20 years.
Stories like Humberto’s keep us going ‘when times get rough.’ His brothers were so inspired and encouraged by his testimony. God is so good! Please pray for DAP. Satan has a short time and he’s working overtime to destroy this program. However, we know the victory is already won🙏🏼👏🏼💃🏼🕺!
