Our guest speaker tonight was Patrick Minor, joined by his son, Patrick, Jr. (PJ). Patrick is an Epidemiologist for the Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) here in Alabama. PJ is a student at Oakwood University.
We were inspired by two solos from Patrick accompanied by PJ. He then shared his personal testimony. Due to the mental illness of their mother, he and his three siblings were raised by their dad in the projects of Montgomery, AL, later moving to the east coast.
Life as a child was tough but Patrick was determined to go to college and pursue a good life for himself. He graduated from Oakwood University and Loma Linda University.
His key Bible text was, “It is through Christ that we are included in God’s plan and are destined for heaven, which is His purpose and will for all who accept His Son.”Ephesians 1:11
He emphasized that through our life experiences, God has a plan and path for all of us.
Through Patrick’s job, his wife, Carla, and their son and daughter, spent almost five years in Zambia. Their experiences were life changing and made them appreciate their USA home more.
In closing, he shared the following quote:
When you begin to realize that your past does not necessarily dictate the outcome of your future, then you can release the hurt. It is impossible to inhale new air until you exhale the old. T.D. Jakes, Healing the Wounds of the Past
We were all moved and inspired by Patrick’s musical talent and personal testimony.
