Our guest speakers for Vesper’s were Finbar and Rhoda Benjamin. Finbar is a Professor at Oakwood University and Rhoda is a nurse. Their message was entitled “Sauters,” Rhoda’s hometown in the country of Grenada. She shared with us what her journey was like growing up as a child there.
The Adventist church had strict traditions e.g. no association with non-Christians, the members were harsh, judgmental, condemning and unloving. The character of Jesus was not modeled to her. The men were asked to describe their journey growing up. Their stories were enlightening and revealing.
Finbar told us the importance of exercise which gives us discipline. As a former Martial Arts Teacher, he did pushups with ease showing the results of taking care of our bodies. He said the study of the Bible is vital to our spiritual life connecting us to Jesus Christ, our foundation. He was so elated to see that each client brought his Bible to Vesper’s and learned that we study our Sabbath School lessons together each morning, memorizing the Bible verses.
In closing, Finbar reminded us that we are created in the image of God which gives us value. “…to be made in the image of God, and in His likeness, means that humans are like God and represent Him as rulers over creation
(Genesis 1:26, 27).
We enjoyed meeting the Benjamin’s and they inspired our hearts 💕. There’s nothing like God’s family!
