Tonight our guest speakers were Kevin and Janet Jackson. Kevin is retired after working in Food Services for 40 years. Janet is a Financial Navigator at the Cancer Center here in Huntsville.
Kevin gave his personal testimony as a cocaine addict for over 20 years. He caused much pain to his wife and children. Of course, his story is the same as most men addicted to drugs. Satan uses the same pattern, just different places and different faces.
Janet told the story of her codependency and how she rescued and covered up for her husband for years, trying to fix him to be the good husband and excellent father he used to be.
Before making the final decision to leave their home, she cried out to God asking Him many ‘why’ questions. He impressed her to focus on herself and leave Kevin to Him. As she learned to love herself and deal with her own brokenness, she experienced God’s healing. Meanwhile, Kevin, seeing the change in his wife, surrendered totally to God and experienced His healing at the same time.
Today, after 32 years of marriage, they are still lovers and enjoying life to the fullest. For example, they leave next week for Gatlinburg, TN to celebrate Kevin’s 60th Birthday.
The Jacksons advised the men to keep God in the Center of their lives and to focus on changing themselves, not family or loved ones. They listened closely and took to heart this timely message.
