On Sabbath we went to Dunlap, TN, client Allen’s hometown, to see his family and visit his grandmother in the Health Care Center.
First, Allen’s mom and sisters joined us at Lonny and Linda Shattuck’s church for worship. Lonny (DAP graduate) and the guys gave testimonies during the Personal Ministries period.
After church, we enjoyed a delicious potluck dinner there and took the guys to visit Allen’s grandmother. She and Allen cried tears of joy when they met. What a healing for grandma to see her grandson no longer addicted to drugs. In fact, his entire family came to the Center to see the ‘new’ Allen. They could not thank us enough for the difference they saw in him after his stay at DAP.
The rain poured down all day. As God cleansed the earth with the rain, I thought of the following text and asked Him to cleanse our hearts in the same manner:
Then I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within them, and take the stony heart out of their flesh, and give them a heart of flesh. Ezekiel 11:19
These men experienced a memorable Sabbath through new acquaintances with Christian family and friends. We teach them the importance of being connected to immediate family and the family of God.
